The community were waiting for the release and two days ago the CSPromod team released the BETA 1.04. While it still contains the Source models and sounds and animations, it has incorporated a lot of what people were expecting it to have from CS1.6. We were curious about what the pros think of the current version.

Today we present you the CS1.6 side of the story, stay tuned for an article with all the CS:Source pros' opinions.

At first sight the game itself looks really good, the biggest problem has to be the CSS models, they are to big for the CSP maps such as peaking over boxes which in 1.6 you can't do. You can stand at the top of banana on inferno and just stand there and you're over the box, it's fucked up. Oh and sound! They really need to work on the sounds, making footsteps and gunshots more clear.

I think it seems pretty nice overall, of course there's a lot of small stuff that needs to be corrected, but I guess thats the case for any beta. I hope they will take in even more parts from 1.6 than they have so far. The nades in Promod for example are waaaaay too large if you ask me.. looks weird when they are being thrown.

I think the first impression is pretty positive. Of course there are a lot of small things which should be improved but overall it's definately a huge step in the right direction compared to BETA 1.03. The scoreboard is designed really good, clear and simple. At the current status I would say that CSP is no match for CS 1.6 but I will await the full version of CSP which is hopefully coming soon and which hopefully will have the old 1.5/1.6 player models!

First impression is that it looks like source (which they wanted) but plays nothing like 1.6! I think it's mainly down to the models still being source so when you get hit you don't seem to notice it until you're dead. I don't really like it much at the moment, it just feels like source should have felt from the start. I think it could well take over 1.6 but it's gonna take some time for them to achieve a "full" version from this BETA!

I can only think of CSP as a little bit better version of CS:S and I don't like CS:S, it feels too robotic and the movement just feels unnatural, I haven't tried CSP but when looking at videos I think it will feel about the same except it looks like they improved the recoil and the grenades. I don't see myself playing CSP and I don't see the point of choosing that over the good old 1.6.

I just tested it two times but I love it specially because 1.6 is ugly and it's important to renew the game style even if it's a little more slow. The hitbox is so great apparently so let's play on it, gather 1.6 & CS:S community.

My first impression is that CSP is pretty much a CS:S based game but thing like models/movement and more are going to be changed (atleast that's what I've heard). So the game might be pretty good in the future!

It's got a lot of potential but at the moment it's far too much like source. The HUD is sexier than Drea Reilly but the movement is really awful, I swear they haven't changed the movement at all from source :(! If they keep working on it , it could definitely take over and reunite the two scenes but it has a long way to go yet.

First of all kinda everything promised by the developement team has been converted pretty good. You can choose between a lot of stuff to edit the game just as you like to have it. The only thing I didn't like after the first test of it was the movement. It has pretty much the Source movement, which I personally don't like at all. I doubt that CS1.6 will ever be taken over, but I see much better chances in worldwide competition for CSP - if they keep up the good work - than for CS:S.

Nothing special, I don't think it's gonna take over 1.6, maybe only in the future.

I didn't like it very much. The game feeling is more source than 1.6 even though I like many little details about the game. For example that you can see how much money your mates have. I don't think the game can overthrow 1.6 but maybe it will be an alternative to source but since I only play 1.6, I don't have much insight on that.

I think it has potential but will take some adjustement before it's ready. Things like the grenades feeling a little slow need adjusting. Also I think not including crouch-hop is a mistake, them claiming the tournament administrations don't want it seems quite odd considering this fight was fought in '06 and it fell in favor of allowing it. But overall it's a pretty good modification and it could have a future once the game has been polished.

I’ve played the game for an hour or so now and to me it feels like an improved version of CSS rather than a replacement for 1.6. The recoil is still not right at all, in CSP the crosshair seems to go up in a straight line, rather than having the shaking effect in 1.6 that makes it controllable, which gives it a very unnatural feel and makes it hard to predict where bullets will go. I also don't like the fact they include every option from both games to attract both communities. In my opinion there are too many customisable options. For example changing the speed models turn between CSS and 1.6 style, where I would prefer one option for everyone in order to keep the base game simple and a level playing field for everyone.

The gameplay is quite same as 1.6 but the graphic seem to be like CS:S, nothing special that could take the players far from 1.6.

At least it was better than source but it still needs very much developement to compete with 1.6. Developement in movement and models imo. But it still needs very much developement with movement etc. to compete with 1.6. And I don't really think that the full version of CSP will take over CS1.6. |
