The community were waiting for the release and two days ago the CSPromod team released the BETA 1.04. While it still contains the Source models and sounds and animations, it has incorporated a lot of what people were expecting it to have from CS1.6. We were curious about what the pros think of the current version.

This is the article featuring the CS:Source pros and their views on the beta. For the opinions of CS1.6 players, click here.

My first impression of CSP is basically what CSS should have been. However, there are a few bugs such as movement, models obviously need changing and the nades need fixing, they just look like watermelons! Looking down the line, if they keep updating it regularly (NOT EVERY 6 months) then I can definitely see it taking over CSS. However time will tell if 1.6ers value the game.

I think that the game does need work but people gotta keep in mind that it's still a BETA. I think that if the developer team keeps it updated it will bring over more and more teams. Who knows what game it will eventually take over.

I don't think it will take over CS:S or 1.6 anytime soon because it's too unfinished, the maps are nice but the gameplay still feels very random with reg etc. When the full version comes out, if it's a really polished version, there's a chance teams will convert but that will only ever happeen when all the big tournaments use promod. Examples WCG/ESWC/Intel Extreme Masters and for CS:S EPS/TeX etc. I just thought it was an average game, nothing special, it didn't really feel like 1.5/1.6 or CS:S. It's not terrible so I mean it has every chance.

It's "okay" for a beta version and think about taking over CS:S is just my personal opinion on the matter and who really wants to know that? CS:S is growing and is now almost twice as big as 1.6, 3-4 years ago 1.6 was roughly 3 times bigger than CSS. Problem with CSP is that it's free and got no exposure to the new generations, those new generations have been buying CSS the past 3+ years. I saw that one of the developers argued that CS in general would die and that might be true, and the question is: How is CSP gonna keep a flow of new players to the game? Keep in mind, most of these don't have any relations towards CS and only CSS.

My first impression when I sat on a server was "wow, this game is awesome" but then as you start to play you come across many problems, such as the crosshair acting nothing like 1.6 or Source. I really like the game despite all the problems though and the main issue is the fact the interpolate bug still exists and as far as I am aware they cannot fix it, I contacted the CSP Developers many times and they refused to listen to all the problems, which to me makes me believe they just want it their way and will try just slide along and hope it works. It could take over CS:S easily, but that isn't exactly a big deal at all. We need to bring both scenes together and that is going to take a lot of work, especially when they refuse to listen. I want the game to be EXACTLY like 1.6 but with Source graphics. Other problems I have come across are most of the 1.6 wall spams don't even work and I also think they are extremely stupid for releasing the game without models.

I like the general idea of Promod, it's long overdue aswell. I like the maps without pointless garbage, the wallspamming, and its general feeling which resembles 1.6 a bit. In the current version, the only things I dislike about it, are the grenades, models and their scaling, and some other stuff that makes the game jitter a bit. However, I do understand that it's a work in progress and the next versions will decide its fate, really. I don't know why you're only talking about it taking over CSS, as at least I do hope it would take over both of the current titles and combine the professional scenes in both.

My first impression of CSP was great. The HUD is awesome, the options are awesome. Everything is all laid out to make the transition from each game (CS:S and 1.6) a lot more bareable. Of course from 1.04 we have the source models still and I didnt like that at all. Ive always disliked the size of models in Source, and I personally can't wait for the 1.6 models to come. The recoil isn't quite there yet (1.6 wise), but hopefully this is something they will be able to fix. I don't want the full version to take over CSS, I want it to combine both CSS and 1.6 players onto one game! I'm exhausted from playing CSS as it takes so much less skill to be at the top, because you're able to run around and spray like your standing still! No offense to all the top players because most of them are actually good - but there's a few that kill solely by running around and shooting. I want the 1.6 elements with the updated graphics because this way CS will live much longer and more sponsors will take interest! I've got so much I want to say about the CSP project, but I'm not going to bore you any more with my details!

No, it couldn't take over CS:S, there is simply too many things in the game - as it is now - that don't make any sense. The recoil is totally shit and the nades looks like melons, that's just 2 of the things.

My first impressions were that it was miles better than the previously released version of CSP. I think it's good, has good maps that are really refreshing to play compared to the CSS versions of the maps. It has a really good concept to it, with the next release of 1.05 I think they will fix alot of the annoying little bugs that there are at the moment. I think it could take over CSS if tournaments pick up the game, but I highly doubt it can take over 1.6.

First impression: did not like it
What was good: the maps
What was bad: the models, the nades, fall damage, the reg
Could it take over Source: yes, if they update some stuff

The idea to combine CS:S and CS1.6 is great but the transformation hasn't turned out well. I don't like this game, the HE grenades, flashbangs and the smoke grenades are too big, the flash effect is too high and you have to change your aiming if you only played CS:S, because that's more the 1.6 aiming. I like the maps, they are really good, such as in 1.6. I think that the full version will not take over CS:S, the community in CS:S is too big and too many teams/player don't like this game.

I think it's quite good although they shouldn't have released it with source models since the maps aren't made for them and they are generally too big for those maps. I'd be happy if both communities united, but it still requires lots of work. |
