    To any terran player,

What do you guys think is the best way to deal with broodlords? I lose many TvZ where I feel I am doing good but suddenly see broodlords, and any vikings I manage to build get sniped by mutas or corruptors. Any tips?

    Thanks!

    To BlinG
    - Do you intend to start entering more high profile events soon, and do you think you can challenge demuslim for the title of best UK SC2 pro?

    To Naniwa
-Who do you think are the best protoss in Korea or the most likely to overcome all the code S terrans? (other than yourself :p)

    To SelecT
-Do you consider yourself to be american or korean when you compete in tournaments?

    To Bischu, Naniwa:
In PvZ when are some good timings to pressure zergs? (I know this will be build dependent, such as a forge FE will be different than a sentry expand, and early robo tech will be different than early stargate/twilight tech.

    @Naniwa

I hear you're a lefty gamer, me too! I'm nowhere as gosu as you though, of course. What's your hotkey setup like? Do you do anything else different from right-handed gamers with regards to hotkeys/game configuration? Also what mouse do you use?

    Thanks!

Yet American. Whoever practice in Korea server more than 6 months should be considered as Korean such as Huk since they Practice with Koreans. So if i stay in Korea and practice long enough i should be considered as Korean player

Hello guys! I'll try to cover the questions not directed to Nani/SeleCT/SjoW personally.

    Neven:

A good solid PvZ opener is the 3 gate expansion. The idea is you open 3 gate with 2 gas, and you go sentry heavy to have a good amount of forcefields to dictate battles in case there's early aggression coming from the Zerg.

We don't release replay packs for the reason you've mentioned. This is a game of strategy and we'd like to keep our playstyle as hidden as possible for our opponents, im sorry :(.

    Thurokiir:

Praciting speed/multitasking is one of the most "annoying" things you can do. The only way to get faster is to force yourself playing faster than you'd normally be comfortable with. This will result in you making a lot of mistakes the first few games (or well.. a lot of games) due to you not being used to the pace you're going at. This is, in my opinion, the only real way to do it though, because if you don't force yourself to be faster all the time, you'll be stuck at a certain level which might not be enough for everything that needs to be done in a game.

For example; You are microing your army in a close fight in the middle of the map, you really don't want to jump back to your base, fill up your production facilities and make an extra pylon/supply/overlord, because then you might screw the fight up. Key in those situations is to attempt it anyways, until you can both micro your army efficiently and keep your macro going. Just a small example.

Also speed increases the more games you play, you always find new "quirks" and "tricks" that'll help you go faster such as camera locations or different hotkey usage etc. So in summary, play A LOT and force yourself to play faster even when it feels uncomfortable.

    Fallore:

My answer might be disappointing because chances are you've heard it before, but believe me this is true:

Everyone needs to grind a ridiculous amount of games to continue improving, this is true for even players at my own level. If we "slack off" for too long, soon enough we'll find ourselves getting beat by someone whos putting in the hours. At low masters, you still have quite a lot to learn though, and the way I'd recommend doing it, apart from grinding away like a mad man on the ladder, is dedicate 2-3 hours each day to go through pro replays, watch GSL vods, and compare to your own replays. It is important that you don't watch these replays/vods for entertainment value, i.e you can't let your mind drift away and just "enjoy the game". You need to analyze the games as they play out, always try to follow the progamers thought process, try figuring out why he's doing a certain build order on a certain map, why he makes certain decisions etc.

    Buggy:

I think you are asking what the optimal way to deal with a certain zerg composition is. Broodlords, like you say, are easily dealt with as long as they don't come in support of infestor/corruptor. The most efficient unit vs the composition infestor/corruptor/broodlord is definitely the ghost in late game TvZ. The ghosts EMP reduces the amount of fungals that can go off, and the snipe ability becomes really deadly vs broodlords once you start dipping into a number of 15+ ghosts.

    Zorrow

You say you are ready to put time into the game, so do it. There is no "hidden recipe" to becoming a professional gamer. It takes dedication and hard work. Why you see people so good after only 1 year is mainly due to their history in RTS before SC2. 95% or more of the pro-gamers are all ex. semi-pro/progamers from other RTS titles such as SC/BW, WC3, C&C, DoW etc. Take me for example; Before SC2 I banked as much as 8 years of playing SC/BW (on and off though) and that RTS experience is so valueable and allowed me to skip all the "beginner" steps and jump right into competing with the top from the beginning.

If you lack RTS experience on a high level from other games, you're not screwed, but you definitely will have to work harder in order to "catch up". I'd say if you are really serious about getting good at this game you'd have to dedicate 6-8 hours a day of playing. As I told Fallore, it's a matter of grinding away at the ladder, studying/analyzing both your own repalys AND progamers replays/vods in order to keep up to date with the current metagame and what not.

I definitely hope to attend for high profile events in the future, and as for demuslim... it's all a matter of time! ;)

Select you should answer my previous question!!

  • Fri 16th Sep 2011 - 2:24am

To SeleCT :: are you planning to stay in Korea and play in GSL for a long time? If not, is that something you would like to do? I am a huge fan and would love to see you play with the best! I'll be cheering for you

To Sjow :: what sort of importance do you put on knowing what your opponent is doing in games (i.e. scouting them)? Some games I watch you do not scout until like after you have a command center done, something I personally would be very worried about doing and would love to read a bit of your thinking.

Also you are sort of infamous for banshees and occassionally tech switching to 2 port banshee, things like that, (I still remember that MLG game vs July ^^ ). Is it mostly a coinflip for you going 2 port banshee etc. or do you do it in reaction to what your opponent is doing?

    Thanks! Gl hf slaying nerds

    @smof
funny thing about the high bindings. I actually started using 9-0 bindings because I saw pro-gamers had stuff there there. One day I found out that I could bind 9 and 0 on mouse 4 and 5, took me 2 weeks to get used to it and I'm certainly not a pro-gamer or very active ladder player.

I think it is important for new players to get used to the most optimal bindings available if they are interested in getting faster and better in the future. : ]
